V-I-K-I-N-G-S! Skol, Vikings, Let’s Go!

Week 6 Gambler’s Power Rankings

I don’t know what the hell skol, or that chant means, but I’m guessing it means the Vikings are good… A lot of movement in this week’s Gambler’s Power Rankings, and a lot of money to be made in Week 6!

*The Gambler’s Power Rankings focuses on a team’s record against the spread, but also factors win-loss records, statistical performance, and schedule strength (amongst other factors) to determine where all 32 NFL teams stand.

 1. Minnesota Vikings (Last Week: 3)
Record: 5-0
Record ATS: 5-0

The Vikings have dismantled pretty much everyone they’ve played, their defense ranks with some of the best I’ve seen in recent memory, Sam Bradford is 2nd in the league in QBR, Sam Bradford is 2nd in the league in completion percentage, and Sam Bradford has yet to throw an interception… Oh, and they have a great Special Teams unit. They dominate all three phases.

2. New England Patriots (Last Week: 2)
Record: 4-1
Record ATS: 4-1

Brady is back, and he’s still Tom Brady.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers (Last Week: 5)
Record: 4-1
Record ATS: 4-1

I think everyone expected this offense to be good, but I doubt many expected this defense to play as well as they have. Take a look at their schedule… It’s pretty favorable.

4. Atlanta Falcons (Last Week: 6)
Record: 4-1
Record ATS: 4-1

Week 6 was the turning point for this team last season, and here we are again, in Week 6. The Falcons will face a tough challenge this week in Seattle, and then will take on San Diego, Green Bay, Tampa, Philly, and Arizona. They might not win all 6, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they cover at least 5.

5. Denver Broncos (Last Week: 1)
Record: 4-2
Record ATS: 4-2

The champs have lost two straight, but no need to panic. They started a rookie QB – Paxton Lynch – in one, and were without their Head Coach off a short week for the other.

6. Green Bay Packers (Last Week: 8)
Record: 3-1
Record ATS: 2-1-1

Statistically, the Packers have the best run defense in the league… T.J. Yeldon is the best back they’ve faced (or Adrian Peterson if you want to count that). Ezekiel Elliott, and the Cowboys, present a different challenge. Let’s see how they hold up.

7. Dallas Cowboys (Last Week: 9)
Record: 4-1
Record ATS: 4-1

The Cowboys defense has allowed an average of 18.2 points per game (8th fewest). Not because they’re good, but because their offense has kept them off the field. This team is very similar to the ’14 team that lost to Green Bay in the Divisional Round of the playoffs… Next up, Green Bay. Should be another classic.

8. Philadelphia Eagles (Last Week: 4)
Record: 3-1
Record ATS: 3-1

Philly lost to Detroit, and Carson Wentz threw his 1st interception of the season… Good luck trying to find that kind of analysis anywhere else. I think they’ve overachieved thus far, and are a year or two out (outside of Pittsburgh, they’ve had cake matchups). They’ll open division play on the road this week at Washington, then face Minnesota, Dallas, Atlanta, Seattle, Green Bay, Cincinnati, and Baltimore in upcoming weeks. I see them dropping… After this win in Washington, of course.

9. Seattle Seahawks (Last Week: 7)
Record: 3-1
Record ATS: 2-2

Coming off their bye, Russell Wilson says he’s “feeling way better”. That’s good.

10. Oakland Raiders (Last Week: 12)
Record: 4-1
Record ATS: 3-2

Another win for the Raiders, and I’m beginning to think they don’t want to move to Vegas. Problem is, they haven’t won a game by more than a TD. They’ve been on the good side of several dice rolls, and the ball always seems to bounce their way… Not exactly a sustainable success strategy.

11. Buffalo Bills (Last Week: 14)
Record: 3-2
Record ATS: 3-2

The Bills have rattled off four straight Ws, following an 0-2 start… Wait, three straight? Nah, it’s four. They play San Francisco this week.

 12. Houston Texans (Last Week: 10)
Record: 3-2
Record ATS: 3-2

If Brock Osweiler doesn’t take advantage of the Colts porous secondary, there’s going to be a lot of questions in Houston. The Texans are a lot worse than their record indicates, but they’re still a good team… I guess… On paper.

13. Los Angeles Rams (Last Week: 11)
Record: 3-2
Record ATS: 3-2

I really can’t figure out if this defense is good, or bad, but at least the offense is starting to score points.

14. Arizona Cardinals (Last Week: 15)
Record: 2-3
Record ATS: 2-3

Back-to-back games against the 49ers, and Jets, may be exactly what the Cardinals need to get back on track. Their offensive line play is concerning, so is their upcoming schedule, but I have a feeling they’ll find a way to get out of this funk.

15. San Diego Chargers (Last Week: 23)
Record: 2-4
Record ATS: 4-2

The Chargers have been the most impressive team this season; hands down… At least from a betting perspective, that is. They lost their two best offensive weapons, and have faced several injuries on defense, yet they could very easily be 6-0 (if it wasn’t for some bad luck – their four losses have come by a combined 14 points). This team finds a way to compete every week.

16. Washington Redskins (Last Week: 19)
Record: 3-2
Record ATS: 3-2

Washington has won three straight, and could’ve easily knocked off Dallas in Week 2. As long as they don’t beat themselves, they’re a good football team. However, predicting the games they’ll limit penalties and turnovers, is a challenge I’m not willing to take.

17. Baltimore Ravens (Last Week: 17)
Record: 3-2
Record ATS: 2-3

I can’t figure out this team. On paper, their offense should be better than their defense. In reality, their defense is much better than their offense. Curious to see what they look like under new Offensive Coordinator, Marty Mornhinweg.

18. Kansas City Chiefs (Last Week: 18)
Record: 2-2
Record ATS: 1-3

I really hope Andy Reid forgets to change, and shows up to the game as Ken Bone. Did Superman ever show up as Clark Kent? Spiderman as Peter Parker? Batman as Bruce Wayne? This is basically the same thing.

 19. Cincinnati Bengals (Last Week: 13)
Record: 2-3
Record ATS: 2-3

What’d I say last week? Oh yeah, “Something is missing with this team”, and a trip to New England won’t help them find it.

20. Carolina Panthers (Last Week: 16)
Record: 1-4
Record ATS: 1-4

They’ve played a tough schedule, and were forced to start Derek Anderson. Raise your hand if you saw a 1-4 start coming for the Panthers… Ok, put your hands down.

21. New Orleans Saints (Last Week: 20)
Record: 1-3
Record ATS: 2-2

New Orleans Saints, East Coast Chargers… Same thing. They compete, and are a few bad bounces away from a 3-1 start.

22. Jacksonville Jaguars (Last Week: 24)
Record: 1-3
Record ATS: 2-2

They just had their bye… Not sure what else to write about them. They play the Bears this week, kind of a must win.

23. Tennessee Titans (Last Week: 26)
Record: 2-3
Record ATS: 2-3

At least Mariota is young, and can still run fast. At least they play Cleveland this week. At least they play in the AFC South… And I have a feeling they’ll be the AFC South representative in this year’s playoffs.

24. New York Giants (Last Week: 21)
Record: 2-3
Record ATS: 1-3-1

As a Giants fan, they suck. Offensive line is bad, defensive line is good (but has played bad), Eli Manning… Sigh. I really don’t understand why they’re favored this week vs. Baltimore.

25. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Last Week: 27)
Record: 2-3
Record ATS: 2-3

Jacquizz Rodgers looked good.

26. Detroit Lions (Last Week: 29)
Record: 2-3
Record ATS: 2-3

Where is Golden Tate? Yes, Notre Dame is weak, but you’re not there anymore.

27. Indianapolis Colts (Last Week: 25)
Record: 2-3
Record ATS: 2-3

It’s never a good sign when the oldest player in the league is on your team, and he’s your best player… And, he’s your kicker.

28. New York Jets (Last Week: 22)
Record: 1-4
Record ATS: 1-4

All aboard the 1-6 express!

29. Chicago Bears (Last Week: 28)
Record: 1-4
Record ATS: 1-4

Cubs won, 8-4.

 30. San Francisco 49ers (Last Week: 30)
Record: 1-4
Record ATS: 1-4

Kaepernick will save them… Hahahaha!

31. Miami Dolphins (Last Week: 31)
Record: 1-4
Record ATS: 1-4

Arian Foster should return soon.

32. Cleveland Browns (Last Week: 32)
Record: 0-5
Record ATS: 1-4

Basically…
