By the year 2032, the running back position will only be found in History books; alongside the dinosaurs. We’ll reminisce on our favorite backs with stories to our grandchildren that begin with,”Back in my day”. Merely a distant memory… non-existent. Now, that’s probably a bit extreme, but Week 1 definitely provided a continuation to an ongoing trend. A trend which has been gaining more and more steam over the past few years…The devaluation of the running back.
Don’t believe me? Take a look at the contracts of QBs/WRs, and the DBs who’s job it is to stop them, and compare them with the salaries of RBs. Or, less deep, and more fantasy relevant, just look at the numbers. Last week there were eleven 100 yard receivers, to only two 100 yard backs. There were twenty-five 75 yard receivers, to only ten 75 yard backs… Don’t forget, the goal of fantasy football is to score more points than your opponent, and it’s pretty clear to see where the value lies.
Keep this in mind when making your roster moves, and look to capitalize on RB name value if you can. If you’re RB heavy, now may be the time to start shopping them for upgrades at your QB/WR positions… Just some food for thought, trim the fat.
