DraftKings Starts of the Night – 2/1/17

Another big night in the NBA means plenty of options to fill out your DraftKings lineups. Now, normally I’d give you a nice little intro, maybe some matchups to target, or things to look out for tonight. But, I had physical therapy this A.M., and got a late start. My bad. Let me make you some money anyway, and hopefully we can call it even…

Guard

*Tier 1: $8,000+, Tier 2: $8,000 – $6,000, Tier 3: $6,000 – $4,000, Tier 4: Under $4,000

Tier 1: Isaiah Thomas – BOS vs. TOR ($9,500)

You might have heard by now, Isaiah Thomas has been balling. If you’re like me, you’re saying “about time!” He balled at UW. He balled in Sacramento. He balled in Phoenix; briefly. And yes, he’s still balling in Boston… About time everyone else has caught up!

He led the league in scoring in the month of January, averaging 33 points per game, so you know he’ll get buckets. But more impressively, he did so while raising his assist average by a full point. In 14 January games, he dropped less than 5 assists just 4 times. So, if I put this Finance degree to good use and add his points created off assists to his ppg in the month of January, he’s at 50 ppg; behind only James Harden and Russell Westbrook. Not bad company.

Tier 2: Goran Dragic – MIA vs. ATL ($7,400)

The Heat have won 8 straight. Yes, the Miami Heat. And while I’m sure Dion Waiters has been blowing up your Twitter feeds, Dragic deserves a little credit himself. I mean, my man just averaged 22 points to go with 6 assists, and 4 rebounds in the month of January. No big deal. You can expect another 20/5/5-ish game from The Dragon tonight against the Hawks who have been entirely too inconsistent on the defensive end.

Tier 3: Brandon Jennings – NYK @ BKN ($5,200)

Looks like Derrick Rose will miss another game after being cros… “Stepping on Kemba Walker’s ankle” Friday night, and Jennings should get another start in his absence. He’s averaging 19.5 points, 6.5 assists, and 4 rebounds in his 2 starts since D-Rose was crosse..”Stepped on Kemba’s ankle”, and seeing how the Nets get worked by opposing guards on a nightly basis, he’s a steal at $5,200.

Tier 4: Nik Stauskas – PHI @ DAL ($3,700)

Yes, his name is missing a C. And yes, he looks like he should be a model for Abercrombie & Fitch. But, his jumper is wetter than the seats at a Zayn concert.

He’s not one to fill up the stat sheet, but he’s scored double-digits in 3 of the Sixers last 4 games. And a matchup against the Mavs (allowing a league worst 39.5% from 3), minus Joel Embiid’s 20+ ppg, sets him up perfectly to make it 4 of 5.

Forward

*Tier 1: $8,000+, Tier 2: $8,000 – $6,000, Tier 3: $6,000 – $4,000, Tier 4: Under $4,000

Tier 1: Paul George – IND @ ORL ($8,100)

Between the LeBron/Barkley beef, Harden/Westbrook’s mockery of the league, the Warriors dominance, the immigration ban, and all of the other overly hyped storylines, you may not have noticed that PG-13 is back, and healthy, and he’s dropped 30+ points in 4 straight games.

The Pacers haven’t been the same team on the road this season, but it hasn’t been because of George. His home/road splits are nearly identical, and he’s a good look for your DraftKings lineup tonight.

Tier 2: Zach Randolph – MEM @ DEN ($6,000)

With Jokic out, the Nuggets have had little choice but to play small. Not going to work against Memphis. Z-Bo’s a good bet for around 15/10.

Tier 3: Gorgui Dieng – MIN @ CLE ($5,500)

13, 4, 16, 8, 12, 5: What number comes next in this sequence? Not exactly sure, but it’s Dieng’s point total for tonight. Over the Wolves last six, Dieng has alternated double and single digit scoring performances, and guess what’s next? He’s also averaging 10.5 rebounds per game over their last 4, and with Kevin Love out tonight for the Cavs, he should have another decent night on the glass.

Tier 4: Domantas Sabonis – OKC vs. CHI ($3,300)

Since Kanter took the L to the chair, Sabonis has put up 3 of his best games of the season. He’ll continue his solid play tonight for a couple of reasons: 1. Westbrook, and 2. Westbrook.

Center

*Tier 1: $7,500+, Tier 2: $7,500 – $6,000, Tier 3: Under $6,000

*DraftKings Start of the Night*

Tier 1: Andre Drummond – DET vs. NO ($7,900)

Crazy stat of the day: The Pels allow the most rebounds per game to opposing Centers, yet Anthony Davis is 6th in the league in rebounding… How Sway? Well, when you’re second in the league in shots attempted per game (87.8), but rank 25th in field goal percentage (44.1%), and last in offensive rebound percentage (18.7%), that’s a lot of defensive boards for the opposition. Mr. Drummond has put up back-to-back 20 rebound games, and has a great chance here to make it 3.

Tier 2: Myles Turner – IND @ ORL ($6,800)

Points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals – Turner does it all, and he’s making a pretty solid case for most improved. He’ll fill up the stat sheet again tonight; as he usually does.

Tier 3: Jonas Valanciunas – TOR @ BOS ($5,400)

There’s an old saying that goes, “start your bigs against the Celtics”…
