The Time Has Come… For Penalty Kicks in the NFL

Ballers, and Bums – Week 8

I’m still waiting on these penalty kicks between the Bengals and Redskins. You’re in London, NFL, ever heard the phrase “when in Rome…”?

If you’re trying to expand interest overseas, why not settle the tie with some penalty kicks? Why not let us see what A.J. Green’s kicking skills look like?! I’m disappointed.

*Not necessarily the best (or worst) fantasy scorers. Ballers are guys who weren’t expected to put up huge numbers, but did, and visa versa. Fantasy points based on the ESPN standard scoring system.

Baller of the Week
Dak Prescott: 19/39, 287 yds, 2 TDs, 1 INT (7 car, 38 yds, 1 TD) – 26 fantasy points

What may have been Dak’s worst real life game of the season (Week 1?), also ended up being his best fantasy performance. The Eagles did a great job of applying pressure, and while he got away with a few errant throws (could’ve had at least 2 more INTs), he made some big plays under duress, and finished the week as the 5th best fantasy QB.

Honorable Mention – Check the Wire
Josh McCown: 25/49, 341 yds, 2 TDs, 2 INTs (3 car, 10 yds) – 20 fantasy points

*Disclaimer: He won’t face the Jets every week* If you need a bye week/injury replacement, you could do much worse than McCown. You can pretty much guarantee he’ll turn it over a few times per game, but you can also guarantee he’ll rarely (if ever) have a lead in the 2nd half. He’ll continue to throw, the Browns playmakers are vastly underrated, and Corey Coleman is set to return to practice this week.

Bum of the Week
Russell Wilson: 22/34, 253 yds, 1 INT (3 car, 11 yds) – 9 fantasy points

Sure, a 65% completion rate, and 253 yards doesn’t truly qualify as bum status, but factor in the zero TDs, the INT, and the Saints defense and it most certainly does!

Running Back
Baller of the Week
Jonathan Stewart: 25 car, 95 yds, 2 TDs (1 rec, 25 yds) – 21 fantasy points

“Oh, the Cards run defense is top 3 in the league? Guess I’ll have to remind you suckas who I am.” – Jonathan Stewart… Thanks for the bench points.

Honorable Mention – Check the Wire
Robert Kelley: 21 car, 87 yds, 1 TD – 14 fantasy points

As long as Matt Jones is out, and R. Kelley doesn’t start urinating on people, “Fat Rob” will continue to produce. Wait. The ‘Skins are on bye Week 9, then face the Vikings, and the Packers… Never mind, he’s not even worth a stash. Their fantasy playoff schedule looks decent though.

Bum of the Week
Ryan Mathews: 4 car, 10 yds, 1 TD – 7 fantasy points

He’s droppable (I dropped him last week). The TD saved the day for Mathews owners, but that’s three straight single digit performances… And he’s healthy for once.

Wide Receiver
Baller of the Week
Dez Bryant: 4 rec, 113 yds, 1 TD – 17 fantasy points

It took 14 targets for Dez to register 4 receptions, and almost half of his yardage came on a 53 yard completion (resulting from a blown coverage), but statistically, the Eagles are one of the toughest match-ups for opposing WRs. So congrats, Dez. Sincerely, bitter Giants fan.

Honorable Mention – Check the Wire
Jamison Crowder: 9 rec, 107 yds, 1 TD – 16 fantasy points

Crowder is still floating around on too many waiver wires! He’s a top 20 WR, who has now gone over 100 receiving yards in back-to-back games, leads Washington in receiving yards/TDs, and has put up double-digit fantasy points in half of their games. He’s like a… Never mind, won’t go there. Suffice it to say, he gets the job done.

Bum of the Week
Brandon Marshall: 4 rec, 68 yds – 6 fantasy points

I thought he was injured (and/or not playing), at several points during the game. But, he wasn’t injured, and he definitely was playing. He just might as well had not been (is that proper English?). Joe Haden is still solid, but he’s now put up single-digit fantasy performances in three straight, and 3 of 5 games since Decker has been out. Something to keep an eye on.

Tight End
Baller of the Week
Rob Gronkowski: 5 rec, 109 yds, 1 TD – 16 fantasy points

In case you needed a reminder, Gronkowski is matchup proof. Buffalo was one of the stingiest defenses against opposing tight ends… How’d that end up?

Honorable Mention – Check the Wire
C.J. Fiedorowicz: 5 rec, 43 yds, 1 TD – 10 fantasy points

He finished the week as a Top-5 fantasy tight end, and missed some time due to the concussion protocol. He’s now averaging 5 catches and 54 yards since returning from injury, has 3 TDs, and is a Top-15 tight end in only 5 games.

Bum of the Week
Hunter Henry: 2 rec, 14 yds – 1 fantasy point

After lighting up Denver two weeks ago, Henry was pretty quiet Sunday. That’s now two straight one point fantasy days, and Antonio Gates seems to be back at full strength. The Henry wave may be over… For now.
