Ballers and Bums – Week 14

Recapping the Week 14 DraftKings Starts of the Week. A few good calls (ballers), a few bad calls/injuries (bums)…

Quarterback
Ballers

Cam Newton: 10/27, 160 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT (8 car, 31 yds) – 12.5 DK FPTS

No, Cam didn’t ball on Sunday… At all. In fact, he was rather pedestrian. However, his baller status comes as a result of this caveat: he was the best of his tier.

I disliked him the least of the 3 options (Brees, and Roethlisberger were the only other QBs priced above $7k), and he put up more fantasy points than those 2… Combined. So, by default, he balled.

Andrew Luck: 24/45, 276 yds, 2 TDs, 2 INTS (2 car, 32 yds) – 19.24 DK FPTS

No, Luck didn’t ball on Sunday… At all. In fact, he was rather pe…. Wait. Here’s the deal, if you take away Brady/Flacco (since they were unavailable for the general Sunday contests) 5 QBs finished with more fantasy points than Luck. So, by circumstance, I guess he kinda balled as well.

Bums

Eli Manning: 17/28, 193 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT, 2 FUML (2 car, -2 yds) – 8.52 DK FPTS

I try not to claim allegiance, and keep this as unbiased as possible, but to know me, is to know I can’t stand the Cowboys (and happen to be a lifelong Giants fan). So, even though you’ve been stinking up the joint – 3 straight sub-200 yard games, and a bazillion turnovers – you did just enough to beat the Cowboys. Therefore, you’re all good with me young Eli… All good with me.

Running Back
Ballers

Rob Kelley: 16 car, 63 yds, 1 TD (2 rec, 25 yds) – 16.8 DK FPTS

I’m usually not one to boast (ok, maybe a little), but my other two RB picks went down with injuries in the 1st quarter… I kind of have no choice but to bask in this one. That said, pretty sure my prediction was 60 yards and a TD… How’s that looking?

Bums

Melvin Gordon: 3 car, 5 yds/Matt Forte: 3 car, 8 yds – 1.30 DK FPTS

Both Gordon, and Forte suffered knee injuries (Gordon also a hip)… What are you gonna do? Hopefully, neither is too serious.

Wide Receiver
Ballers

Odell Beckham Jr.: 4 rec, 94 yds, 1 TD – 19.40 DK FPTS

My man is entirely too fast. The Cowboys deserve credit (or Eli), as he was held in check most of the game, but he made that 61 yard catch and run to the house look too easy. And, nothing else matters.

Taylor Gabriel: 3 rec, 82 yds, 1 TD – 17.20 DK FPTS

Like OBJ, almost all of Gabriel’s damage was done on one play. Like OBJ, Gabriel is ridiculously fast. Like OBJ, you’re happy if you started him.

Bums

Tyrell Williams: 2 rec, 68 yds – 8.80 DK FPTS

Williams was about 7 yards short of making me the genius who predicted 3 WRs who happened to do next to nothing all game, but scored a long TD, and ended up balling for your fantasy team, but… He was 7 yards short.

Tight End
Ballers

Tyler Eifert: 5 rec, 48 yds, 2 TDS – 21.80 DK FPTS

Eifert. Red zone. Unstoppable.

Bums

C.J. Fiedorowicz: 3 rec, 32 yds – 6.20 DK FPTS

He led the team in targets with 7, so can’t blame Miller’s huge day, he just didn’t do much with those 7 targets. Oh, and he left early due to a concussion.

Vance McDonald: 0 rec, 0 yds – 0 DK FPTS

Friday, McDonald signed a 5 year, $35 million dollar extension. Sunday, he suffered a season ending shoulder injury. Damn… I’m starting to feel a bit like the Madden curse.

Defense/Special Teams
Ballers

Minnesota Vikings: 16 PA, 4 SCK – 7.00 DK FPTS

I mean, the Vikings weren’t exactly good Sunday. They weren’t necessarily bad either.

Cincinnati Bengals: 10 PA, 1 INT, 3 SCK – 9.00 DK FPTS

Apparently, Terrelle Pryor is garbage. More importantly, the Bengals interception streak is now at 7 games.

Bums

Seattle Seahawks: 38 PA, 1 SCK – -3.00 DK FPTS

They say defense travels… Whoever “they” is forgot to tell the Seahawks. 38 points may not seem like much, until you realize the Packers hadn’t scored over 35 since Week 3 of last season.
